I am hoping someone out there can answer this question. In 1971 I bought a bootleg 8-track tape at a swap meet. It contained a version of the "Sound of silence" that I had not heard before or since. It wa done with what I refer to as a "reverb effect". I have never found this version on any album Columbia has released. (This includes the "Old Friends" 3 CD set in 1997.) I would appreciate any information anyone might have. The only lead I have ever had was that the "reverb effect" was the original single released at Christmas time, in 1965. Paul Simon was supposedly in Enland at the time of the release. When he returned from England he heard the "reverb effect" version, hated it, and had it pulled from circulation. The version we are all used to hearing replaced it. Please E-mail me at kpsaenz@earthlink.com if you have any information and/or know where I can obtain a copy of the "reverb effect" version.

At first I have to say that I cannot speak and write english/ american-english very well, but I hope you'll understand my text!
I'm a big fan of yours (I have got five CD's of yours: "Wednesday morning, 3 a.m."/ "Sound of silence"/ "Bridge over troubled water"/ "The concert in Central Park" and "The Simon & Garfunkel collection"! So I cannot understand why you don't want to sing (and play) together anymore like you did it in your College time (I'm just 18, but I had printed the biography out of the german Simon & Garfunkel website, so I know when you have been at the College)! i am i 16 year old boy and i love your music. i mostly listen to hard rock but you and nirvana are my favorite bands. there is something about your music that is so enchanting and it gives off a wonderful trip. right now i am listening to benedictus which is my favorite song because your voices are so good in this song as they are in all the others but this song is just so i cant even put it into words what it is like but nobody can ever imitate it. i have a band of my own and we play hard rock i have tried to write in your style but i lack the talent. i really want to meet you guys or at least one of you and ask you how you write such wonderful music. i think art is coming to town with an orchestra or something and i will try to catch that show. you guys should do a reunion tour and when you do please, please come to SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH. i will be the first one in line for tickets. you guys rock and kick so much ass. your music will never die as long as i am alive.

I don't understand how anyone can say that Pauls african songs are bad. I think that it is brave and creative to move on and leave the already explored areas. Many artists live on their old hits for decades, without ever renewing. Every one of Paul's albums after he broke up with Art has been new and experimental. I think that anyone who really likes Paul and his music agrees with me that Graceland or Songs from the Capeman are as good as the earlier Simon and Garfunkel albums.
Way to go Paul!

S&G's music is legendary. It's those raw, simple yet deep songs that Paul wrote that made them what they are today. Yes, it would be great if they made more music, but if you think they're going to take any notice of comments like these after all these years, then you're on cloud-cookoo land. And what's all this "Come to Sweden, Come to Sweden" lark? The guys probably only comunicate via Christmas cards, and that's their right. It's a shame that Paul Simon put so much of his energy into that African sound because his talent is in Pop-Folk. He wrote absolute A1 quality tunes before, but now all we seem to hear are "You can call me Al" clones. Oh well, I like listening to the old songs. But hey, there's lots of new talent around as well, so don't be ghosts. Listen to bands like "Ocean Colour Scene" and "Travis". But keep also listening to the old music of "The Beatles" and "Queen" because you can really draw on the quality.
